SlimSearch

Description: A Firefox extension that allows quick and easy Web searches on text found on any Web page. Google is extensively used for many search types. The focus is on simplicity of utilization: less is more.
It's a typical platform-independent Firefox extension, written in XML and JavaScript.

Download and install: SlimSearch has been accepted and is now available on mozilla.org:
http://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2440/

Tested on:
- Firefox 1.5x, 2.x
- Windows XP, Linux and Mac OS X

Details:
Using SlimSearch is really easy - you're reading a Web page and you encounter a word, a phrase, a name, etc. that is interesting and you want to search it on the Web.
With the mouse, just highlight the thing that you want to search. Let's assume that the word "expression" is the thing that you want to search (see image below).

Then right-click on the selection. A little window will appear. Look for the SlimSearch menu.

Now click on the "Normal Search" option. A new browser window or tab will open, containing a normal Google search for the word you selected ("expression").

But perhaps you want to know the precise meaning of the word "expression"? No problem, instead of "Normal Search", select "Dictionary". This is the result:

You're reading the sports news. OK, so Tiger Woods got married. Fine. But who's the bride of the famous golfer?

That's rather easy: as shown in the image above, select her name, right-click, go to SlimSearch, select "Google Images". This is the result:

Way to go, Tiger! :-)

You're reading up on Google and you come across their corporate Web page with the address of their headquarters. You want to see the map of the location with all the streets in the neighborhood.

maps

That's easy: select the whole address, right-click, go to SlimSearch, click on Google Maps. This is what you get:

You're browsing the Web and you come across this nifty player called the iPod. You like it, you want to buy it but you want the best deal.

froogle

Select the word "iPod", right-click, go to SlimSearch, go to Froogle. This is what you obtain:

There are many other ways you can use this extension. Feel free to poke around, explore the other options in the SlimSearch menu, try it out and learn how to use it. It's easy and it's fun. Enjoy!
